About this position:
The Career Counselor, MH/ASD Specialist is a key team member of the JFCS Career Development Center’s career counseling team. This position will work to develop career pathways and long-term career goals for job seekers in Allegheny County who struggle with mental health challenges and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder. This individual will ensure job seekers have all of the necessary tools, resources, and support to achieve their goals and be successful in their careers going forward; whether their goal be higher education, employment or career advancement.

Qualifications:

Previous experience working with individuals who have a mental health challenge, invisible disability and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder
Relevant education or experience in the area(s) of counseling, employment/workforce, education, human resources or a related field is preferred
Strong background in mental health and working towards certification. A CRC, LCSW, LSW or Counseling degree, or commensurate experience, is preferred
Skilled at presenting in individual and group settings, both virtually and in person
A general understanding of workforce and labor markets
Humility in working with individuals from culturally, racially and gender diverse backgrounds
Strong computer skills required, including Microsoft Office and CRM experience
Strong organizational skills with an ability to multitask
Detail oriented with excellent oral and written communication and writing skills
A bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling or related field; master’s degree preferred

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide individual assessment and career direction counseling for clients

Conduct individual career counseling sessions, both virtually and in person

Work with clients to develop individualized career pathway plan
Ensure each client has high quality materials needed to conduct a successful job search, including a resume
Identify and work to reduce barriers to accessing and retaining employment, including transportation, food insecurity, and other critical needs supports
Help to develop and deliver workshops, including Resume Writing, Goal Setting and Effective Communication and Feedback, targeted towards unique populations and/or community partners

Maintain contact with clients during job search and after placement to ensure successful job retention
Act as a liaison for JFCS and hold off-site office hours to best serve clients and community partners, including universities and/or other nonprofit organizations
Participate in trainings, meetings and professional conferences, representing the CDC as required
Work closely and collaboratively with other JFCS departments to best serve clients
Represent the CDC and specific programs to the community through community outreach, public speaking, and response to community concerns about the programs and clients
Track and regularly monitor program data including client engagement and case notes in agency database system and other required formats
Assume other related duties as assigned
