Columbia College Chicago a private urban institution of over 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students, four-year College offering a distinctive curriculum that blends liberal arts, creative and media arts and business is currently searching for a Director of Student Organizations & Leadership.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Life, the Director of Student Organizations and Leadership provides primary leadership and managerial oversight for all aspects of the department of Student Organizations and Leadership including staff supervision, budget management, and the promotion of student involvement and leadership development at the college. Leading a team staff and student workers, the Director provides oversight of the Makerspace, Student Organization Council (SOC), Student Government Association (SGA), Student Athletic Association (SAA), Student Leadership Programming and all officially recognized student organizations and athletic groups. They act as liaison to the Vice President of Student Affairs and the college President on initiatives regarding student leaders. This position also manages the day-to-day administrative function of the Engage portal, the college’s campus experience management platform.
Duties & Responsibilities

Direct the development and implementation of services and programs designed to enhance the educational experience of students, build community, and provide opportunities for students to build personal, professional and leadership skills (i.e., workshops, activities and special events).
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff.
Manage the supervision of 25+ student employees and paid student leadership positions.
Serve as liaison to the Vice President of Student Affairs and College President on matters involving student engagement and student leaders by soliciting student input on college initiatives, facilitating involvement in administrative committees and panel discussions, and providing insight into student needs.
Foster relationship of student leaders with the president’s office and Board of Trustees.
Develop, monitor, and administer departmental budgets, overseeing the allocation of funds to student organizations, athletic groups, and the Student Government Association.
Oversee the operations of student organizations including registration, recognition, funding, and programming.
Supervise resources, facility usage, and needed permits for all college athletics organizations operating within Fitness Activities and Recreation
Assess, develop, and implement policies and procedures for the department and for student organizations.
Oversee student spaces and equipment for the Makerspace, Dowsek Loft, and the front desk of the Student Life Office.
Lead the development and delivery of comprehensive training programs for student leaders, student organization advisors and student staff.
Plan and execute campus-wide programming that includes: Student Center’d, Commuter Daycation, Spring Involvement Fair, Blood Ball, and the Excellence in Student Leadership Awards.
Collaborate with Student Activities to integrate student organizations into New Student Convocation, Columbia Weekend, Wicked Week, and Manifest activities.
Maintain departmental social media accounts, college webpages using Cascade CMS, and all other office resource information sites.
Attend all Student Affairs and Student Life meetings. Serve on college-wide committees as requested.
Support all Student Affairs initiatives.

Campus Groups

Manage portal and application infrastructure, user onboarding, community conduct, and event submission and approval processes.
Attend regular committee meetings with the Engage core and Engage portal steering committees.
Conduct training for platform users on a bi-annual basis and via appointment.
Respond to customer inquiries and troubleshoot user service concerns with CampusGroups and Columbia IT to address issues in a timely manner.
Administer and update user tags for students’ major, academic year, and academic department.
Attend regular trainings to stay up to date on new features and identify how to better use CampusGroups to promote student engagement.
Manage private and confidential data in compliance with college regulations, guidelines, and policies.
Perform other related duties and/or responsibilities as assigned or required.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in college student personnel, higher education or related field required.
Minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in campus activities, leadership, student involvement or related field at an institution of higher education.
Experience supervising full-time employees with ability to assign work, train staff and conduct performance reviews.
Demonstrated knowledge of Student Affairs practices, principles, and procedures involving activities to enhance student life.
Ability to develop and implement programs and activities that build student community and extend student learning.
Familiarity with student community engagement platforms (i.e., CampusGroups).
Ability to interact effectively with constituencies on and off-campus.
Ability to lead on and off-campus partnerships, especially with faculty and College Administrators.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to plan, organize, and lead programs and activities designed to enhance student life and retention.
Knowledge of administrative and supervisory techniques and practices.
Ability to relate to students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
